ABSTRACT (FULL-TEXT IN HUNGARIAN!)

Gábor Németh’s essay, titled “The Absence or Transformation of Transcendence? An Interpretation of Atheistic Transcendence from a Christian Pedagogical Perspective,” places an anthropological problem in education at the center of its discussion. The author attempts to interpret the moral commitment and community cohesion manifested in secular pedagogical spaces as a form of transcendence. The central pedagogical claim of the ideas developed in the above study is that transcendence is not the exclusive domain of religious people, but rather a universal anthropological trait that is also present in secular educational settings. The purpose of this reflection is to examine the propositions put forward in the study from a humanistic perspective, with the main argument being that the author is making a mistake when he characterizes thinking that goes beyond the self—and, in some cases, communal thinking—as transcendence.
